Three Indian nationals has been rescued from the Turkish-owned cargo vessel MV Royad Mammadov following an attack in the Black Sea on Monday. They have departed for India, stated on Saturday by the embassy of India in Bucharest.“Three Indian nationals, Shri Sahil Sandhu, Shri Ashwini Kumar and Shri Harman Singh, departed for India today (Saturday),” the mission said in a statement.They have been provided all the necessary assistance by the authorities to facilitate their return to India. It also expressed gratitude to the Romanian authorities, Constanta county hospital and romanian rescue teams for their support and cooperation.The vessel, owned by a Turkish company, was carrying corn from Ukraine’s Izmail port to Ravenna in Italy, when it was struck in the Black Sea outside Romania’s territorial waters on Monday.The 3 Indians nationals surived, alothough sustained injuries and got the medical assistance in Romania. This attack killed the two foreign seafarers killed and injured several crew members. The nationalities of killed individuals were not idenitified immediately.On October 7, an embassy representative visited the 3 Indians, who had been rescued from the vessel on October 6. At the time, two were staying at a hotel, while the third was receiving treatment at the county hospital in Constanta. All three were in stable condition, the mission said.The embassy also arranged essential supplies, including mobile phones, through the shipping company’s local agent and organised Indian meals through a local Indian restaurant, according to the news agency PTI.The mission said it remained in close contact with the relevant authorities and continued to provide all necessary assistance to the rescued seafarers.Meanwhile, India has emerged as the world’s second-largest supplier of seafarers, with 311,936 maritime professionals working in the global shipping industry, according to the BIMCO-ICS Seafarer Workforce Report 2026.The report estimates that Indian seafarers account for 12.16 per cent of the global workforce, placing India behind the Philippines but ahead of China, the Russian Federation and Indonesia.
