Actor Aishwarya Lekshmi has addressed an old controversy surrounding her outfit at a jewellery exhibition in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident took place in May, when pictures from the event appeared on social media and led to criticism from some sections of the internet. The actor has now spoken about the experience explaining what actually made her uncomfortable at the event.
Aishwarya Lekshmi says photographers made her uncomfortable at event
Speaking about the controversy in an interview with Ranjini Haridas, Aishwarya Lekshmi said the attention at the event was not on her face but on the way some photographers were taking pictures of her. She said, “The photographers at the event were not focused on my face. They were more interested in taking photographs from inappropriate angles.” According to the actor, this made her extremely uncomfortable. She explained that when a person feels uncomfortable, their body language naturally changes. Aishwarya also said she felt that her personal boundaries had been crossed during the event.
Actor questions why women are judged over their clothes
Aishwarya Lekshmi made it clear that the outfit itself was never a problem for her. She said she was comfortable with what she had chosen to wear, but felt uncomfortable because of the behaviour around her. She also questioned the criticism that followed online. “People asked me, ‘If you were uncomfortable, why did you wear such an outfit?’ Is culture only about a woman’s clothes? Don’t we also have to look at culture in the way we behave?” she said. The actor also pointed out that women are often expected to be careful about their clothes and appearance, while inappropriate comments about women do not receive the same level of criticism.

The actor revealed that she initially chose to laugh off the comments and move on. However, she was surprised when the discussion continued and turned into a bigger debate over her appearance. Aishwarya also expressed frustration over the attention given to a woman’s outfit compared with more serious issues. “There is no time for people to talk about the country’s GDP growth or parents being abandoned in old-age homes. But everyone seems to have time to talk about a woman’s clothes,” she said. Her comments have now brought the focus back to the larger issue of privacy, personal boundaries and the way women are judged in public spaces.
