Gold price prediction today: Gold prices are likely to trade cautiously with no clear catalyst for a big rise, says Vedika Narvekar, Research Analyst – Commodities & Currencies, Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers. Below is her outlook:Gold has had a cautious week, recovering from a low of $4,066.54 last Wednesday to close at $4,194.24, up 1.28% for the week. This week the rebound has stalled, with spot trading around $4,160 after briefly crossing $4,200 on Monday.Silver is stuck near $59-60 after failing to hold above $61. The dollar index is near an 18-month high of 102.20 and the US 10-year yield is above 5%, both of which continue to weigh on bullion. Brent near $105 keeps inflation fears alive, and markets still see about an 85-90% chance of a Fed hike in December, against only 17% for October. The comments from the New York Fed’s Williams, who sees one more hike this year but none in 2027, helped yields ease a little, but not enough to spark a real recovery. In India, MCX gold ended last week at Rs 1,51,499 per 10 gm, but has slipped about 1.1% to near Rs 1,49,860 this week as the rupee rallied sharply after the RBI’s measures. What stands out is how strongly investors are still buying despite the headwinds.Global gold ETFs took in about $10 billion in September (67.3 tonnes) and a record $31 billion in the third quarter, taking total holdings to a record 4,256 tonnes. North American funds saw their first quarterly inflow of 2026, and UK funds had their strongest quarter on record. Yet the physical market tells a different story.Bank of America notes that central banks, China and India have slowed their buying, and that weak prices could eventually prompt ETF holders to sell.
Gold: Focus This Week and the Next
The big event is today’s US September CPI, the last inflation reading before the Fed meets, followed by producer prices and import prices later in the week. On Thursday, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh speaks at the IMF annual meeting in Bangkok, and the market will look for hints on the pace of tightening.Markets will also watch oil and Hormuz headlines, and whether the Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire is confirmed, since Ukraine says no deal is finalised. For Indian markets, the rupee remains a second driver of MCX prices as it has turned volatile and strengthened after RBI’s recent measure.Looking ahead to next week, attention shifts to the Fed meeting on 27-28 October, where officials such as Cleveland’s Hammack and Dallas’s Logan want more than one additional hike, while Williams does not.
Gold Price Outlook
The near-term picture stays cautious. Gold lacks a clear catalyst for a sustained turnaround, and rallies are likely to meet profit-taking as yields and the dollar stay high. A soft CPI or a dovish tone from Warsh could take gold towards $4,220-4,310, while a hot print or hawkish surprise could pressure prices back towards support at $4,070-4,000.Bank of America expects gold to average $4,000 in the fourth quarter, with a possible low of $3,750, and says it needs a more dovish Fed or renewed debasement fears to turn higher. Until then, ETF investors and central banks should continue to offer a floor, but gains are likely to remain capped.
